Toggle stanza 1مانند صبا خیز و وزیدن دگر آموز
مانند صبا خیز و وزیدن دگر آموز
دامان گل و لاله کشیدن دگر آموز
Rise like the morning air and learn to blow again; tulip and rose are fair; play gently with their train, deep in the rosebud’s heart learn how to stab thy dart.
Toggle stanza 2موئینه به بر کردی و بی ذوق تپیدی
موئینه به بر کردی و بی ذوق تپیدی
آنگونه تپیدی که بجائی نرسیدی
You put on a hair-shirt and throbbed without taste; you throbbed in such a way that you arrived nowhere. Learn to throb in the assembly of longing.
Toggle stanza 3کافر دل آواره دگر باره به او بند
کافر دل آواره دگر باره به او بند
بر خویش گشا دیده و از غیر فروبند
Bind again your wandering heart to Him; open your eyes to yourself and close them to others. Learn again how to see and not to see.
Toggle stanza 4دم چیست پیام است شنیدی نشنیدی
دم چیست پیام است شنیدی نشنیدی
در خاک تو یک جلوهٔ عام است ندیدی
What is breath? It is a message. Did you hear it or not? In your dust there is a universal manifestation; did you see it or not? Learn again to see and hear.
Toggle stanza 5ما چشم عقاب و دل شهباز نداریم
ما چشم عقاب و دل شهباز نداریم
چون مرغ سرا لذت پرواز نداریم
We have not the eye of an eagle and the heart of a falcon; like a house-bird we do not know the delight of flight. O house-bird, rise and learn to fly again.
Toggle stanza 6تخت جم و دارا سر راهی نفروشند
تخت جم و دارا سر راهی نفروشند
این کوه گران است به کاهی نفروشند
The throne of Jamshid and Darius is not sold by the roadside; this heavy mountain is not sold for a straw. Learn again to buy it with your heart’s blood.
Toggle stanza 7نالیدی و تقدیر همان است که بودست
نالیدی و تقدیر همان است که بودست
آن حلقهٔ زنجیر همان است که بودست
You lamented and destiny remained as it was; that ring of chain remained as it was. Do not despair; make another attempt.
Toggle stanza 8وا سوختهای یک شرر از داغ جگر گیر
وا سوختهای یک شرر از داغ جگر گیر
یک چند به خود پیچ و نیستان همه در گیر
Burnt-out one, take another spark from the scar of the liver; twist within yourself awhile and set the whole reed-bed aflame. Become a flame and burn the chaff again.
