I tell you a significant point known only to the people of ecstasy —

The majesty of nations springs from "Lā", but their splendor flows from "illā".

2

"Lā" and "illā" together signify control of the cosmos —

They are the keys to the doors of the cosmos.

3

From these two words, the world of “Kūn” takes form —

“Lā” gives it motion, “illā” makes it calm.

4

Unless the secret of "Lā ilāha" is grasped —

The shackles of the “other-than-God” cannot be shattered.

5

In this world, each quest begins with the word “Lā” —

This is the first station of the man of God.

6

A nation that for a moment burned with the flame of “Lā” —

Forged itself anew from its own dust and clay.

7

To say “Lā” before all else but God, that is life! —

From that upheaval, the cosmos draws its freshness.

8

Not every person is affected by its madness —

Not every haystack is fit to catch its fire.

9

When the ecstasy of “Lā” strikes the heart of a living person —

He compels the sluggards sitting on the roadside to march toward the goal.

10

Do you wish the servant to fight the master? —

Then sow the seed of "Lā" in his handful of dust.

11

Whoever has this burning ardour in his heart —

Is more awe-inspiring than the awe of Doomsday.

12

"Lā" is the station of relentless strikes —

This is the rumbling of thunder, not the piping tune of a flute.

13

Its blow changes every being into non-being —

So that you come out of the whirlpool of Existence.

I recount to you the days of the Arabs —

That you may know their raw and ripened epochs.

15

Their strokes broke Lat and Manat into pieces —

Confined within dimensions, yet they lived free of all shackles.

16

Every old garment was torn off by them —

Khosrows and Caesars met their doom at their hands.

17

At times deserts were overrun by their thunder showers —

At other times seas were churned by their storms.

18

The whole world, before their fire, like straw ablaze —

This grand uproar was but the fierce wrath of 'Lā!'.

19

They were constantly astir in this ancient idolatry —

Until they brought forth a new world into existence.

20

From their rising at dawn, the cry of Truth was raised —

All that we see today springs from the seeds they once laid.

21

This torch of tulip-blossoms (modern knowledge) that has been lit in this era —

Its seedling was brought from the banks of their stream.

22

When the Arabs erased all else but God from their hearts —

From their handful of dust, a hundred storms took start.

Similarly you witnessed, even in the age of the Franks —

How slavery rose to wage war on its masters' ranks.

24

As the heart of Russia was sorely afflicted —

The word “Lā” came out of the depths of her being.

25

She has shattered that ancient world order —

And applied a sharp scalpel to the veins of the world.

26

I have examined the trajectory of this (revolution) —

It began by rejecting monarchs, then the church, and ultimately, Allah the Almighty.

27

Her thoughts remained stuck in the stormy winds of “Lā” —

And she never steered her stallion toward “illā”.

28

Maybe a day will come when through force of ecstasy —

She may extricate herself from this whirlwind.

29

For life finds no rest in the station of "Lā" —

The universe itself, inevitably, journeys toward “illā”.

30

"Lā" and "illā" are the fundamental instruments of nations —

Negation without affirmation is the death of nations.

31

How can Khalil grow ripe in divine love —

Unless ‘Lā’ guides him unto the path of ‘illā’ too.

32

O you! who sit within your chamber weaving words —

Step forth! and cry the call of "Lā" before a Nimrod.

33

What you see around you is not worth two grains of barley —

Be acquainted with the might of “Lā ilāha”.

34

He who wields the sword of “Lā” in his hands —

Is the sovereign ruler of all that stands.
