The Spirit of India Appears

A Houri descended from heavens and she removed niqaab from her face.

She had ever-lasting shine on her forehead and her two eyes had bright with ecstasy.

Her dress was lighter than thin cloud which was woven of threads made of rose-petals.

With such loveliness, her portion was collar and chain; on her lips were sorrowful laments.

Rumi said this is the spirit of India; its cries tear apart the heart of the listener.
