نو به نو هر روز باری می کشم

نو به نو هر روز باری می کشم
وین بلا از بهر کاری می کشم

Every day I bear a burden, and I bear this calamity for a purpose:

زحمت سرما و برف ماه دی
بر امید نوبهاری می کشم

I bear the discomfort of cold and December’s snow in hope of spring.

پیش آن فربه کن هر لاغری
این چنین جسم نزاری می کشم

Before the fattener-up of all who are lean, I drag this so emaciated body;

از دو صد شهرم اگر بیرون کنند
بهر عشق شهریاری می کشم

Though they expel me from two hundred cities, I bear it for the sake of the love of a prince;

گر دکان و خانه‌ام ویران شود
بر وفای لاله زاری می کشم

Though my shop and house be laid waste, I bear it in fidelity to a tulip bed.

عشق یزدان پس حصاری محکم است
رخت جان اندر حصاری می کشم

God’s love is a very strong fortress; I carry my soul’s baggage inside a fortress.

ناز هر بیگانه سنگین دلی
بهر یاری بردباری می کشم

I bear the arrogance of every stonehearted stranger for the sake of a friend, of one long-suffering;

بهر لعلش کوه و کانی می کنم
بهر آن گل بار خاری می کشم

For the sake of his ruby I dig out mountain and mine; for the sake of that rose-laden one I endure a thorn.

بهر آن دو نرگس مخمور او
همچو مخموران خاری می کشم

For the sake of those two intoxicating eyes of his, like the intoxicated I endure crop sickness;

بهر صیدی کو نمی‌گنجد به دام
دام و داهول شکاری می کشم

For the sake of a quarry not to be contained in a snare, I spread out the snare and decoy of the hunter.

گفت ای غم تا قیامت می کشی
می کشم ای دوست آری می کشم

He said, “Will you bear this sorrow till the Resurrection?” Yes, Friend, I bear it, I bear it.

سینه غار و شمس تبریزی است یار
سخره بهر یار غاری می کشم

My breast is the Cave and Shams-i Tabr¯ız¯ı is the Companion of the Cave. I bear ridicule for the sake of the Companion of the Cave.
