دگربار دگربار ز زنجیر بجستم

دگربار دگربار ز زنجیر بجستم
از این بند و از این دام زبون گیر بجستم

Once again, once again I have escaped from my chains, I have burst out of these bonds and this trap which seizes the infirm.

فلک پیر دوتایی پر از سحر و دغایی
به اقبال جوان تو از این پیر بجستم

Heaven, the bent old man full of wizardry and deceit— by virtue of your youthful fortune I have escaped from this old man.

شب و روز دویدم ز شب و روز بریدم
و زین چرخ بپرسید که چون تیر بجستم

Night and day I ran, I broke away from night and day; ask of this sphere how like an arrow I sped.

من از غصه چه ترسم چو با مرگ حریفم
ز سرهنگ چه ترسم چو از میر بجستم

Why should I fear sorrow? For I am the comrade of death. Why should I fear the general? For I have escaped from the prince.

به اندیشه فروبرد مرا عقل چهل سال
به شصت و دو شدم صید و ز تدبیر بجستم

Reason bore me down with anxiety for forty years; sixty-two has made me quarry, and I have escaped from devising.

ز تقدیر همه خلق کر و کور شدستند
ز کر و فر تقدیر و ز تقدیر بجستم

All creatures have been made deaf or blind by predestination; I have escaped from the attack and retreat of predestination, and from predestination.

برون پوست درون دانه بود میوه گرفتار
ازان پوست وزان دانه چو انجیر بجستم

Outwardly skin, inwardly stone, the fruit is a prisoner; like a fig, I have escaped from that skin and that stone.

ز تأخیر بود آفت و تعجیل ز شیطان
ز تعجیل دلم رست و ز تأخیر بجستم

Delay causes mischief, and haste is of the devil; my heart has escaped from haste, and I have escaped from delay.

ز خون بود غذا اول و آخر شد خون شیر
چو دندان خرد رست از آن شیر بجستم

In the first place blood was the food, in the end blood became milk; when the teeth of reason sprouted, I escaped from that milk;

پی نان بدویدم یکی چند به تزویر
خدا داد غذایی که ز تزویر بجستم

I ran after bread, a loaf or two, by imposture; God gave me a food, so that I escaped from imposture.

خمش باش خمش باش به تفصیل مگو بیش
ز تفسیر بگویم ز تف سیر بجستم

Be silent, be silent, speak no more in detail; I will speak of the interpretation, I have escaped from the stench of garlic.
