At dawn, the nightingale said to the gardener —
In this soil, nothing grows but the plant of sorrow.

به پیری میرسد خار بیابان
ولی گل چون جوان گردد بمیرد
The desert's thorn reaches ripe old age —
But the flower of the garden, in its youth, fades away.
