Toggle stanza 1بیا ساقی بیار آن کهنه می را
بیا ساقی بیار آن کهنه می را
جوانِ فرودین کن پیر دی را
O bearer come and serve the old wine, Which gives an old man the youth’s new shine.
نوائی ده که از فیض دم خویش
چو مشعل بر فروزم چوب نی را
Give me a sweet tone, that by my breath own, Like torch I may lit up my flute’s gay tone.
Toggle stanza 2یکی از حجرهٔ خلوت برونی
یکی از حجرهٔ خلوت برونی
بباد صبحگاهی سینه بگشای
Leave thy solitude cell for a while please, Ope thy bosom thus from the morning breeze.
خروش این مقام رنگ و بو را
بقدر نالهٔ مرغی بیفزای
For a tempo to world’s hustle and thrill, Raise thy tune and tone to song bird’s trill.
Toggle stanza 3زمانه فتنه ها آورد و بگذشت
زمانه فتنه ها آورد و بگذشت
خسان را در بغل پرورد و بگذشت
With times came unrest which passed so quick, It reared great satans and passed so quick.
دو صد بغداد را چنگیزی او
چو گور تیره بختان کرد و بگذشت
Many Baghdads were raped by tyrants greal, It levelled their graves and passed like spate.
Toggle stanza 4بسا کس اندوه فردا کشیدند
بسا کس اندوه فردا کشیدند
که دی مردند و فردا را ندیدند
Those who had fears for the future days, They died yesterday before coming days.
خنک مردان که در دامان امروز
هزاران تازه تر هنگامه چیدند
Lucky are those whose dress of today, Is booming with success day by day.
Toggle stanza 5چو بلبل نالهٔ زاری نداری
چو بلبل نالهٔ زاری نداری
که در تن جان بیداری نداری
Like nightingale you know not the groans and wails, You lack living soul in your set up frail.
درین گلشن که گلچینی حلال است
تو زخمی از سر خاری نداری
This garden which gives the rose plucking right, You felt no pricks alas! for the thorns fright.
Toggle stanza 6بیا بر خویش پیچیدن بیاموز
بیا بر خویش پیچیدن بیاموز
بناخن سینه کاویدن بیاموز
Come forward and learn the self seeing art, Learn the hard task and sufferings of heart.
اگر خواهی خدا را فاش بینی
خودی را فاش تر دیدن بیاموز
If you wish clear vision of God the Great, Learn to see the self in a vivid state.
Toggle stanza 7گله از سختی ایام بگذار
گله از سختی ایام بگذار
که سختی ناکشیده کم عیار است
Give up the habit to weep on fate, Face the hard times with a courage great.
نمی دانی که آب جویباران
اگر بر سنگ غلطد خوشگوار است
Dont you know that the water of a brook. When falls on stone, it gives a lovely look.
Toggle stanza 8کبوتر بچه خود را چه خوش گفت
کبوتر بچه خود را چه خوش گفت
که نتوان زیست با خوی حریری
A gull said to shaver, nice witty thing, You cannot exist with the silken wing,
اگر «یاهو» زنی از مستی شوق
کله را از سر شاهین بگیری
With a fondness great if you call Ya Hoo You can catch hawk’s head with a loving coo.
Toggle stanza 9فتادی از مقام کبریائی
فتادی از مقام کبریائی
حضور دون نهادان چهره سائی
You had fallen then from a godly place, To courts of mean men you sought a close face.
تو شاهینی ولیکن خویشتن را
نگیری تا بدام خود نیائی
Thou art a hawk, to self you cannot get, Until you are caught in thy self’s own net.
Toggle stanza 10خوشا روزی که خود را باز گیری
خوشا روزی که خود را باز گیری
همین فقر است کو بخشد امیری
I hail that day when he turns to self’s bold, This is the faqr’s essence which makes him gold
حیات جاودان اندر یقین است
ره تخمین و ظن گیری بمیری
The lasting life thus in certitude. lies, A thought when you follow the self then dies.
Toggle stanza 11تو هم مثل من از خود در حجابی
تو هم مثل من از خود در حجابی
خنک روزی که خود را بازیابی
Like me you are too wrapped in a veil, You turn to self when that good day
مرا کافر کند اندیشهء رزق
ترا کافر کند علم کتابی
I hail my fear of living takes, to Kufr’s camp hark! book’s knowledge leads to Kufr’s pitch dark.
Toggle stanza 12چه خوش گفت اشتری با کره خویش
چه خوش گفت اشتری با کره خویش
خنک آنکس که داند کار خود را
A camel once said a nice word to foal, He’s lucky who knows to play his own role.
بگیر از ما کهن صحرا نوردان
به پشت خویش بردن بار خود را
Learn from me a knack of desert tramps, To take thy own load from camps to camps.
Toggle stanza 13مرا یاد است از دانای افرنگ
مرا یاد است از دانای افرنگ
بسا رازی که از بود و عدم گفت
I know many savants and gems of west, On being and non being they felt the same quest.
ولیکن با تو گویم این دو حرفی
که با من پیر مردی از عجم گفت
Bid me, tell to thee two words at least, To me please talk in accent of East.
Toggle stanza 14الا ای کشته نامحرمی چند
الا ای کشته نامحرمی چند
خریدی از پی یک دل غمی چند
Hark! O victim of wits of aliens few, For one heart you brought a score of griefs new.
ز تأویلات ملایان نکوتر
نشستن با خودگاهی دمی چند
Then Mullah’s views it was better to sit, With a self‐conscious sage with ego’s wit.
Toggle stanza 15وجود است اینکه بینی یا نمود است
وجود است اینکه بینی یا نمود است
حکیم ما چه مشکلها گشود است
This being would last or just a passing show, The wise could not solve this knotty tie so.
کتابی بر فن غواص بنوشت
ولیکن در دل دریا نبود است
He wrote a book though ‘on diving in sea’, To his heart’s sea ah! he could never see!
Toggle stanza 16به ضرب تیشه بشکن بیستون را
به ضرب تیشه بشکن بیستون را
که فرصت اندک و گردون دو رنگ است
With battle axe smite the Bistoon Mountain, The time is short trust on sky too in vain.
حکیمان را درین اندیشه بگذار
شرر از تیشه خیزد یا ز سنگ است
Leave the wise men thus in their headaches own, Did the spark raised from the axe or from stone?
Toggle stanza 17منه از کف چراغ آرزو را
منه از کف چراغ آرزو را
بدست آور مقام های و هو را
Keep the crave’s lamp burning ever in heart, Get the place where the uproars start.
مشو در چار سوی این جهان گم
بخود باز آو بشکن چار سو را
Do not get lost in the world’s four nooks, Break the four nooks, and turn to self’s look.
Toggle stanza 18دل دریا سکون بیگانه از تست
دل دریا سکون بیگانه از تست
به جیبش گوهر یکدانه از تست
O heart’s sea! no peace yet known to thee, The gloss of gems here, due to my glee.
تو ای موج اضطراب خود نگهدار
که دریا را متاع خانه از تست
O wave! thus guard thy own restive thrill, The noise of storms thus, due to thy will.
Toggle stanza 19دو گیتی را بخود باید کشیدن
دو گیتی را بخود باید کشیدن
نباید از حضور خود رمیدن
To both the worlds win with efforts and zeal, From thee never run for thy own self’s weal.
به نور دوش بین امروز خود را
ز دوش امروز را نتوان ربودن
From light of past see the light of to day, To day you cant cut off from the last day.
Toggle stanza 20به ما ای لاله خود را وانمودی
به ما ای لاله خود را وانمودی
نقاب از چهره زیبا گشودی
You show us O Poppy! thy self’s own trace, And turned the hid mask of thy charming face.
ترا چون بر دمیدی لاله گفتند
به شاخ اندر چسان بودی چه بودی
I call you poppy when you show thy face, In branch what you looked? Where was thy trace?
Toggle stanza 21نگرید مرد از رنج و غم و درد
نگرید مرد از رنج و غم و درد
ز دوران کم نشیند بر دلش گرد
A man weeps not from a grief or pains, No dust e’er falls, on his heart from strain.
قیاس او را مکن از گریه خویش
که هست از سوز و مستی گریهٔ مرد
If he e’er weeps you take it in this sense, His weeping is a part of love pangs trance.
Toggle stanza 22نپنداری که مردِ امتحان مُرد
نپنداری که مردِ امتحان مُرد
نمیرد گرچه زیرآسمان مُرد
If a tested man dies think not ever, He dies on the earth, there he dies never.
ترا شایان چنین مرگ است ورنه
ز هر مرگی که خواهی میتوان مُرد
To thee thus suits a death of such state, Though dead yet lasts his self’s pleasant trait.
Toggle stanza 23اگر خاک تو از جان محرمی نیست
اگر خاک تو از جان محرمی نیست
به شاخ تو هم از نیسان نمی نیست
If thy dust has no link with soul and heart, No raincan moisten thy hearts’s any part.
ز غمزاد شودم را نگهدار
که اندر سینهٔ پردم غمی نیست
Be free from griefs, guard breath with His hum, In man full of dam no griefs can come.
Toggle stanza 24پریشان هر دم ما از غمی چند
پریشان هر دم ما از غمی چند
شریک هر غمی نامحرمی چند
My each breath blows with griefs many more, My friends share not my griefs anymore.
ولیکن طرح فردائی توان ریخت
اگر دانی بهای این دمی چند
Yet future can be shaped to large extent, If you know the great price of each instant.
Toggle stanza 25جوانمردی که دل با خویشتن بست
جوانمردی که دل با خویشتن بست
رود در بحر و دریا ایمن از شست
A young who tied heart with ego’s call, He swam quite safe, along seas, and rivers all.
نگه را جلوه مستی ها حلال است
ولی باید نگه داری دل و دست
No harm if you relish a decent scene, Keep an eye on heart that the hands are clean.
Toggle stanza 26ازن غم ها دل ما دردمند است
ازن غم ها دل ما دردمند است
که اصل او ازین خاک نژند است
Such griefs this heart now likes to take, Like dust of low things of humble make.
من و تو زان غم شیرین ندانیم
که اصل او ز افکار بلند است
To those sweet griefs alas! we know not, Which make a man great with higher ‘thought.
Toggle stanza 27مگو با من خدای ما چنین کرد
مگو با من خدای ما چنین کرد
که شستن میتوان از دامنش گرد
Blame not the God for this or that hurt, This dust should be dusted from thy skirt.
ته بالا کن این عالم که در وی
قماری میبرد نامرد از مرد
Change the heinous world whose bad nature yet, Gives lead to bookies to take the whole bet.
Toggle stanza 28برون کن کینه را از سینهٔ خویش
برون کن کینه را از سینهٔ خویش
که دود خانه از روزن برون به
Turn out fire of envy from thy heart’s core, Like smoke of house through the ventilator or door.
ز کشت دل مده کس را خراجی
مشو ای دهخدا غارتگر ده
No tax ever pay on heart’s yield to none, To make the lands barren O! landlord shun.
Toggle stanza 29سحرها در گریبان شب اوست
سحرها در گریبان شب اوست
دو گیتی را فروغ از کوکب اوست
In his nights behold many dawns bright, Both the words are bright from his moon’s light
نشان مرد حق دیگر چه گویم
چو مرگ آید تبسم بر لب اوست
I give thee some signs for that Muslim’s trace, He welcomes his death with a smiling face.
Toggle stanza 30بباد صبحدم شبنم بنالید
بباد صبحدم شبنم بنالید
که دارم از تو امید نگاهی
To the morning breeze’ weep’d the dew’ in trance, I cherish from thee a favour of glance.
دلم افسرده شد از صحبت گل
چنان بگذر که ریزم بر گیاهی
I have fostered gloom from the Rose,’ alas! Thus pass in a way that I fall on grass.
