Hasrat Mohani

Hasrat Mohani’s original name was Syed Fazl ul Hasan. His life was associated with the ghazal, journalism and the struggle for Indian independence. Born in Mohan, he studied at Aligarh and remained active in public life throughout his life.

His ghazals preserve the tenderness, intimacy and musicality of the classical tradition. This poetic voice was part of his personality alongside political resolve, religious feeling and a commitment to freedom.
