حکیمی که با جُهّال دراُفتد توقعِ عزّت ندارد وگر جاهلی به زبانآوری بر حکیمی غالب آید عجب نیست که سنگیست که گوهر همیشکند.
نه عجب گر فرو رود نَفَسَش
عندلیبی غُراب هم قفسش
گر هنرمند از اوباش جفایی بیند
تا دلِ خویش نیازارد و در هم نشود
سنگِ بد گوهر اگر کاسه زرّین بشکست
قیمتِ سنگ نیفزاید و زر کم نشود
When a sage comes in contact with fools, he must not expect to be honoured, and if an ignorant man overcomes a sage in an oratorical contest, it is no wonder, because even a stone breaks a jewel.
